While the Louds played the role of a simulation of American middle-class families, it failed to simulate the real because of all the shooting and broadcasting. Although the producer claimed that the Louds lived as if TV was not there, it was simply impossible because of the fact that it was there, and in fact, 20 million viewers were there. With the presence of the media, the real of the Louds never existed, but transforming into the hyperreal.
It is fascinating how Baudrillard compared us with the Louds, claiming that we are the Louds in real life. In response to current event of the COVID-19, I believe the claim is true. Before the pandemic, we laughed at the way Chinese government track and control its citizen with technologies, saying it is a violation to human rights. Now, many countries are pushing the limit of citizen control, and Apple and Google just published their solution for human and health tracking system that could be used by the government in the future. Then, we are indeed the Louds, acting as a part of the simulation of modern societies.

This contemporary example of the response to COVID-19 is very intriguing. It is almost as if there is a control crisis. Now people can keep tabs on where we are and if we are practicing social distancing because of social media.
