Blog post #14

This section of the book deals with the third order of simulacra, which is what is happening now in the post modern world, where technology rules. Baudrillard stated that "there is no longer any referential." I believe his idea was that in the third order of simulacra, there is no real at all, but the simulacra precedes and determines the real. It is true when we think about AI and machine learning nowadays. How many times have you gone on to YouTube, clicked on one of its suggestion and realized "Oh, that was exactly what I was looking for"? Or, how many times has Facebook/Google ads suddenly suggested some products that made you realize that "Oh yeah, I really need to buy this"? AI was initially created as a simulation to the human brain, to how we process and gather information in order to learn. Now, I feel like we are using it to an extend that it does the thinking for us. With predictive algorithms, it is a simulacra of our thoughts that actually precedes our own thoughts, without us even realizing it.
